Classes

Adult Karate

Adult karate class will focus on several different areas. Students will learn techniques and their applications to effectively defend themselves. The study of Shotokan katas will give the student a better understanding of stance, balance and overall body awareness. Traditional blocks, kicks, and strikes will be taught to give the student a base for both self defences and sparring applications. Basic sparring techniques will be covered as well. This information will be taught in a positive and encouraging group environment that will allow the student to develop as a martial artist.

Youth Karate

            Youth karate class are for ages 5 and up and will focus on several different areas. Classes will be energetic and enjoyable to engage the student plus encourage learning. Students will learn techniques and their applications to effectively defend themselves. The study of Shotokan katas will give the student a better understanding of stance, balance and overall body awareness. Traditional blocks, kicks, and strikes will be taught to give the student a base for both self defences and sparring applications. Basic sparring techniques will be covered as well. Additional focus on physical fitness and flexibility as well as mental discipline will increase performance in Karate and in other aspects of life. This information will be taught in a positive and encouraging group environment that will allow the student to develop as a martial artist.

Adult & Youth Sparring

            Light contact point sparring is offered to a student upon reaching a yellow belt or higher and who has shown proficient understanding of control and required techniques. In these classes students will learn to utilize a variety of skills to enhance their sparring ability. Co-operative drills will be utilized to increase the students understanding of distancing, timing, foot work and reaction speed. Students will also apply techniques by sparring with each other and with the instructors. Although it maybe an individual sport there is an emphasis on teamwork and working together to improve as a whole. Classes will be tailored to both students participating for recreation and those who wish to compete.

Adult Fitness

Adult fitness classes will use a combination of different work out styles including circuit training, cardio kickboxing, kettle bells, bodyweight exercises, stretching, and group drills. These will cover strength, cardio and flexibility to achieve an overall and complete fitness that will translate well in many aspects of well being such as improved posture, mobility, cardiovascular health, and body composition. Classes are designed to be challenging and enjoyable. Modifications will be made to any exercise to make sure it is achievable for beginners or more challenging for the advanced.
